Interprofessional learning and interprofessional practice action research project
This report presents the progress to date of the “Action research project to strengthen inter-professional learning and practice across the ACT health system” project. The project is funded by the Australian Research Council and ACT Health for 2007 – 2010.
The purpose of this report is to update stakeholders on progress to January 2008. The report is organised into six parts. Following this Introduction, Part 2 presents an overview of the project. This includes the project’s partners and funding, project expertise, and a description of the project, including a brief account of key literature on IPL and IPP, and an overview of project objectives. Part 3 presents details of progress on each of the project’s five objectives. Part 4 contains References and Part 5 is the Conclusion which briefly outlines the tasks to be accomplished in 2009.
A collaborative research partnership has been formed between the Centre for Clinical Governance Research (CCGR) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), ACT Health, the Australian National University, the University of Canberra, the University of Sydney, the University of Queensland and the Australian Patient Safety Foundation. Together the partners are conducting a four-year Australian Research Council (ARC) linkage project, “An action research project to strengthen interprofessional learning and practice across the ACT Health system”. The ARC Linkage, with the contributions from the investigators and industry partners, brings the total funding for the project to $4.78M.
The intention of the partnership is to conduct a collaborative action research project using interprofessional learning (IPL) as the basis for improving interprofessional practice (IPP). In undertaking this project the partners are attempting to produce a profound culture change in the way health professionals work together to deliver services. The project stands at the intersection of three industries – tertiary education, professionally based education and the health system, and it spans both the public and private heath sectors.
