Being Part of Health Care as a Nurse Practitioner

A Nurse practitioner to work in cooperation with doctors and primary care providers special treatment. Nurse practitioners work, the combination treatment and the provision of health services to the patient. There are some special areas for nurse practitioners, and the most common women’s health, adult practice, family practice, pediatrics, geriatrics and acute care. Additional specialties include mental health and neonatology.

Steps for Becoming a Nurse Practitioner:

1. Earning a bachelor’s degree:
Getting a bachelor’s degree from a program that has been approved is the first step for those who are interested to become a nurse practitioner. While an associate degree or diploma from either an individual is eligible to take the national exam for licensure, have a bachelor’s degree will make the next steps, such as getting a master’s degree, more convenient.

2. Passing the national licensure exam:
To be able to work as a nurse take first pass a national licensure exam. Once passed this exam, an individual can obtain entry-level position of care.

3. Working as a licensed registered nurse:
Have hands-on experience as a registered nurse is an important step for the aspiring nurse practitioners when they determine the specific area desired. In addition, some programs recognize only a master’s degree candidate with one to two years clinical experience as a registered nurse.

4. Obtaining a graduate degree:
The nurse practitioner must complete a Master of Science in Nursing degree program. Master’s program usually only accept students with bachelor’s degree in nursing. Once admitted, most programs require two years full-time study.

5. Earning certification in a specialty:
In accession to accepting the advanced degree, a nurse practitioner usually requires special national certification in the region. Some states require certification before nurse practitioners can begin to practice in some special.
