Education is needed for Nurse Practitioner

A nurse practitioner is responsible for all aspects of patient care and can work independently of physicians. Nurse practitioners are in great demand in urban and rural hospitals. Read on to learn more about education for professional care.

Nurse Practitioner Job Description
The task of the nurse practitioner to perform multiple functions the same as a doctor. They have all the education and training of registered nurses, plus additional Coursework and experience in treating and managing patient care. The most significant difference between the registered nurse and Nurse Practitioner is the ability to write prescriptions for medicine. Doctors and nurse practitioners have this right, but not registered nurses. Hospitals and clinics employ Nurse Practitioners when other health professionals have the necessary, but a doctor is not practical because of budget or other logistical problems.

Required Education for Nurse Practitioners
Becoming a Nurse practitioner starts from a registered nurse. Once a registered nurse through the Bachelor Degree program, or an alternative path of education, graduates are required to become a Nurse Practitioner.

The degree to seek is a Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing. This is a two-year degree program that will reinforce and expound upon the basics of nursing learned during undergraduate study. Students will study:

• Advanced anatomy
• Diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses and ailments
• Medical Ethics and Law
• Pharmacology

At this time there have been discussion that have all Nurse Practitioners receive a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, now is not the Master Degree. This degree will take about twice as long to complete the Master of Science. Possible reason for the changes is the desire for Nurse Practitioners to have uniform skills and abilities instead of relying on known differences in the various universities’ Master Degree programs. For now, however, a Master’s Degree in Nursing certification is correct and all that is required for a career as a Nurse Practitioner.

Specializations
A nurse practitioner is usually expressed as a special pediatrics, gynecology, mental health, or heart disease. This helps them to focus on the Master Degree program of study. In addition to special Coursework, graduate students spend a lot of their time in the hospital caring for the patient and work with experienced Nurse Practitioners and physicians.

Certification and Licensing
The Master’s Degrees in Nursing and then must sit for the examination administrative license by the state in which he intends to exercise. Certification can be augmented with state certification by national organizations such as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, www.aanp.org

Salary Information
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, www.bls.gov, the starting annual salary for Nurse Practitioner is approximately $ 50,000. More experienced nurse practitioners can get more salary of $ 75,000 per year. Because of the Nurse Practitioner-up knowledge and skills, but the salary is relatively low (compared to doctors), they are often needed in rural and urban poor doctor.
