THE ROLE OF A NURSE ANESTHETIST IN HEALTHCARE
Assessment and documentation of a patient’s physical status
Selection of and implementation of an anesthetic plan
Administration of all forms of anesthesia, including general, regional, local and IV sedation
Managing preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative anesthesia care
Implementation of all techniques of airway management
Participation in acute and chronic pain management
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Our 24month, fulltime program offers superb classroom education and extensive clinical affiliations which provide experience in all types of anesthetic management. The program utilizes 16 clinical sites to provide a variety of experiences. Wayne State University Nurse Anesthesia Program (WSUNAP) has expanded its program beyond the Metropolitan Detroit area to accommodate students in outlying areas of Michigan. The WSUNAP program is renowned for its 40year history of excellence in nurse anesthesia education, boasting a multitude of national and local leaders amongst its graduates. The program is fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. Upon program completion, the graduate is fully prepared to complete the National Certification Examination and to practice in the clinical setting of their choice.
