Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) are licensed registered nurses who have advanced study (Master’s or Doctorate degree) in nursing. Clinical Nurse Specialists are expert clinicians in a specialized area of nursing practice. They have a variety of skills to help you deal with your illness and work with your health care team members to provide personalized nursing care.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist may:
• Give information to you and your family about your illness and ways to stay healthy.
• Explain the details of your treatment or tests so you will understand them and feel better prepared.
• Suggest ways to deal with the side effects of your medicines or treatments.
• Offer ideas on how to make being in the hospital easier for you and your family.
• Suggest to you and your family members ways to cope with stressful situations while you are receiving treatment.
• Be available to talk about important decisions related to your health care.
